South Loudoun Youth Chorale (SLYC) is a nonprofit youth choral organization serving students across Loudoun County, Virginia and the surrounding region. We provide year-round choral music education and performance opportunities for singers in grades 1–12, combining high-quality vocal training with a culture centered on service, leadership, joy, and care. In a typical year, SLYC serves approximately 250 singers under the age of 18, with about 90% residing in Loudoun County. SLYC delivers its mission through three primary program areas: 1) Performance Season (September–April) We offer six choral ensembles for grades 3–12, organized by age and vocal development. Each ensemble benefits from weekly rehearsals focused on vocal technique, music literacy, and ensemble skills. All students participate in combined concerts that highlight mentorship and collaboration across ensembles. We perform diverse repertoire that includes classical choral works, folk traditions, contemporary music, and musical theatre. 2) Summer Programs (July) We offer two week-long summer choral camps that focus on high-energy music making, creative activities, and performances. Week one is for grades 1-6 and week two for grades 7-10. Camps provide paid leadership opportunities for local high school and college musicians who serve as counselors. The camps also support our Artistic Teaching Assistant Program, which offers recent college graduates in music education hands-on teaching experience with professional mentorship and feedback. 3) Audition Workshops We are pleased to offer audition workshops that are open to middle and high school students across Loudoun County and the region. They provide focused preparation for District Chorus, All-Virginia, and ACDA honor choir auditions, training in sight-reading, vocal technique, and audition strategy.
